April 30th, 2009Girls On Top, Head Over Heels
So, you know how there are those girls that you just totally dig? The girls that rock and rule at everything they do?Sarra Manning is one of those girls. Now, I could be a complete girl o’ gush about this awesome writer-girl, but I’ve already done that here, so instead, I’ll be extremely professional and journo-like and tell you that Sarra Manning, author-girl supremo of the Diary of a Crush series, Let’s Get Lost, Guitar Girl and the most recent Fashionista series, has just released her first book for grown-up girls, Unsticky, and I’m not going to lie…it’s a bit freakin’ good.
I’m not the kind of girl who tells people what to do, but you HAVE to read this book. Really, you do, but come meet Sarra first, I guarantee you’ll put her on your ‘Girls who Rock and Rule’ list too.

Meet Sassi Sam. She’s my Australian sista in everything sassy. Ok, so we’re not like, real sisters, but if I could choose a sister, Sam would deffo be my home girl. Why?
Well, her shop o’ prettification has the cutest, most unique, boutique prods from around the world, with stylin’ that’s fun, girlie and completely glamboyant – yes, that is a word, Sassi Sam said so. And as if a pretty, pretty online shop wasn’t enough to keep a girl busy, she has a must-read blogginz too, which, FYI, is like a shot o’ candy-coloured happy stuff in your google reader – subscribe, pronto. April 28th, 2009Life CandyA Recessionista is a girl who knows about the state of the financial climate but combats it by being suitably sassy with her money. I might be the wrong person to write this article – I ignore my bank statements and spend a LOT of money on pretty, pretty shoes - but I do however have some tricks to turn a dull evening spent watching Eastenders into fun and frolics without spending the pennies. As Janet once sang, ‘the best things in life are free’, so grab your partners in play and get old-skool creative.

Singstar Superstar
Let’s ignore the fact you might not have a playstation, you can betcha bottom dollar somebody in your circle of pals will have. Get a party of ten, chuck in a fiver each, buy a couple of mixers and some crisps. Next, raid the drinks cupboard – I recommend Crème De Menthe, Cinzano, and Advocatt – 70’s retro fabulousness. Mix with Singstar classics (I particularly love Tiffany – I think we’re alone now), and if you run out of songs, put on a tv music channel and turn up the volume disco style. Add crisps – you need some sustenance for the singing, obviously, and there you have it, your own fabulous Seventies style soiree. I would recommend limiting your gay friends on this though – not only do they hog the microphones, but from recent experience, they usually end up hogging each other. In the garden. -

Now, I’ve never met Fiona, the super-talent behind Black Pearl boutique, but I want to. A lot. She’s created a li’l bit of retro-hearted fabulousness in the heart of Central London. Black Pearl has everything you need to create that retro pin-up look, well, apart from the hot, well-coiffed man-candy to carry your shopping, but she apologises for that. She makes her own range of jewellery and accessories under the Black Pearl brand, and shares the vintage love by stocking fabulous accessories, clothing and lingerie by other designers too.
Love Fi, love Black Pearl. I have a sneaky feeling that you might too.

Now, I have never been one of those girls that’s obsessed with skinniness or Victoria Beckham’s ribcage, and I refuse to buy trash mags that tell me how to ‘get slim for summer’. Not only do they bore me, they just make me want to eat more, and I actually quite like my body despite the fact I have to pose in certain ways to make sure my bingo wings don’t actually look like bingo wings.Which is why I love How to Eat Like a Hot Chick – £6.99, HarperCollins. Frankly, this book was written for the Sassy Minxes of this world – irreverent and in-your-face, this is every hot chick’s guide to having your cake and eating it. Learn how to eat confidently, without any apologies, and still manage to look gorgeous.

My inner showgirl was just dying to have these fringed tights from Beraboque – it was love at first sight when I saw them – c’mon, they’re gorgeous, aren’t they?Teamed with an asymetrical Lanvin-esque dress, some fabulous platforms and of course, a fascinator hat, you can can can can can!
