July 30th, 2009Girls On Top
There are moments when life seems black and white and terribly, terribly dull. There are other moments however, when all things monotone exude sexuality, modern classicism and riveting undertones – think Chanel, Helmut Newton pictures and stills of the sizzling Marlene Dietrich dans le smoking – I’d now love to add to that list, Lascivious.

And I’m not the only one, Girls Aloud, the super-sexy Ciara and Britney Spears are also big fans of the uber-cool lingerie label that has my smoky-eyed self dreaming of hanging out on a Parisian rooftop, wearing the Mariette bra and knickers and Wanda tassle suspender with an Absinthe in one hand, and the other clutching the neck of a Dangereux Liaisons.
The lady behind the label? Well, it gives me great pleasure to introduce you to Chloe Hamblen, the creative and managing director of Lascivious…

I am all over today’s Etsy Love because it’s the creation of Queen Gilda, one of my fave blog-girls. Revasseur – it’s french for daydreamer, dontcha know? – showcases Gilda’s creations o’ fashion fabulousness.
Gilda grew up in sunny Singapore, and moved to Tokyo when she was 20 to go to the best fashion school in the world, Bunka Fashion College. Now she lives in New York, attending Parsons’ fashion design program – yep, she’s officially a fashion junkie!
I LOVE Gilda’s Revasseur mission statement:
“…I’ve been very lucky in my life, and I believe that clothes have been a huge part of that! I express myself best through the way that I dress, and I hope that any item of clothing you purchase from RÊVASSEUR becomes an extension of your personality too!…”
Come meet her, she’s simply fabu!

July 28th, 2009Inner Minx, Want. Need. Must Have.
There is a famous quote by Jerry Hall that has always stuck in my head…
“…My mother said you should be a maid in the living room, a cook in the kitchen and a whore in the bedroom…”
Fear not, I’m not on a one woman feminist mission, but I am seeing an uprising trend amongst my friends and peers, a trend that involves staying in and making cupcakes and cocktails rather than going out and getting lashed, one that has them asking for homely things like ‘knitting bags’ or ‘jam making books’ for their birthdays, as opposed to me who asks for MAC, big costume earrings and sexy knickers and/or hot man shoved in for good measure. Am I wrong to be under the impression that your twenties are the freedom years, full of wild flings, broken hearts, crazy nights out and ill-judged purchases? NOT knitting needles, card making and suduko?

I banished the word ‘diet’ from my vocab five years ago, so when author girl Anita Revel, launched her brand new book The Goddess D.I.E.T, I couldn’t help but do a frown-y thing with my eyebrows. I love Anita’s books – they’re all kick-ass and empowering – so I did NOT love the idea of a diet book, not one li’l bit. Luckily though, Anita’s idea of ‘diet’ does not involve starving yourself, trash talking and self-loathing…hurrah!
Y’see, when Anita lost her libido, her self-respect and her aspiration to get another season out of her bikini, she started a life-changing process to find her goddess within. By creating The Goddess D.I.E.T, she found dozens of Daily Intentional Empowerment Tools (’DIET’) to realign her physical, emotional and spiritual behaviours for total well-being.
I am most deffo a convert – I’ve lost 16lb and I wasn’t even trying. While being able to fit into my new Julien McDonald dress is a really rather nice treat, The Goddess D.I.E.T is about much more than weight loss, it’s a book-shaped, butt-kicking reminder to respect and dig what you see in the mirror, indulge in non-food pleasures – I signed up to a hula-hoop class and a tarot-reading course, and most importantly, to stop thinking there’s only one kind of beautiful, because yep, even me, The Sassy Minx, forgets sometimes – Come meet Anita, she’s a goddess-girl of epic proportions.

Ohmy-freakin’-stars.
This Greta Garbo special edition Mont Blanc pen is the stuff of my writer-girl, silverscreen-goddess-obsesso dreams.
Look at it, have you ever seen anything more beautiful? I don’t think I have ever wanted anything more than I currently want this pen. Does that make me superflous and shallow? It does? Oh well.

I simply do not have enough fingers to count the many, many reasons why I love being a Sassy Minx, but one that I know fo’ sho’ is that I get to hook up with the sassiest, most awesome members of grown-up girl-kind and today, well today is NO exception.
Meet Carolyn Turgeon. How do I love thee? Let me count the ways. Carolyn is author-girl of Godmother: The Secret Cinderella Story which is set in a modern day NYC and is a breathtaking story of love, loss and redemption. It’s a re-telling of the fairytale Cinderella, but with a touch o’ Enchanted, a li’l Charmed and a whole lot o’ Wicked – it’s by far my favourite read of the year, s’far. Fact. Carolyn also hearts all things 1940s, is a sucker for Urban Decay cosmetics, loves Burlesque and the musical fabulousness that is Pink Martini and most importantly, she’s now a Sassy Minx – hurrah – look out for features o’ fabulousness from Miss Carolyn v.soon. Til then, come meet her – she’s simply de-voom!

– Melissa Blake
Carolyn Turgeon – new girl crush. She’s freakin’ crazy awesome – interviewed her for SM yesterday and she’s blown me away with her awesomeness – you will be too when you read the interview on Friday – ahh-mazing. Meet Eleanor Jane.
She’s a kick-ass photo girl and zine-making queen who lives in an attic and digs making a mess – you love her already, right? Well, wait ’til you actually see her creations…ah-freakin’-mazin’. I discovered Miss EJ a couple of months ago, when I snapped up every issue of her Girl Photographer zine, since then she’s created a new zine, Soul Catch Fire, a story of sorts; of men, muses and slightly mad love. Each 14 page zine features eight mini photographic prints – bee-you-tiful.
