October 29th, 2009AimeeBeauty Queen, Want. Need. Must Have.

I’m sure all you Sassy Minxes are desperate to get away from your work desks as one of the most prolific dressing-up weekends is amongst us – Happy Halloween! I confess I haven’t been so organised this year, and I am relying on a black puffball dress and cat ears – my lack of effort is evident – to carry me through the Monster Mash with old friends in Nottingham, whilst Miss L is off to wonderful Glastobury to do some enchanting magic. Here are some spellbinding ideas for your weekend -what are you doing to celebrate?

In preparation for the big night, I am planning on chilling in my new star print pyjamas and watching  True Blood to distract me from the constant knocks at the door from ‘Trick or Treaters’. The series of ‘vampire-porn-with Vinnie from Home and Away’ has already got me hooked!

I usually hate for my hair to look frightful, but it’s totally okay when I am wearing one of these amazing Hammer Horror hairclips from Heidi Seeker!

Its been all over the catwalk and now MAC are showing you how to mix it up and go back to black with lipstick and my favourite ‘the smoky eye’. Okay, the black lipstick is a little bit terrifying, but we know our Sassy Minxes are never scared of trying something new.

Finally, as we mentioned earlier this month, October is all about Breast Cancer Awareness. Its not strictly in theme for Halloween, but this set from Floozie at Debenhams made me feel magical and at an amazing price, this gorgeous silk set doesn’t just signify ‘Something for the Weekend’, it also donates some of the proceeds to Breast Cancer campaign.

    £17.50 www.debenhams.com

Whether you are hiding behind the sofa or hooking up with a hot werewolf over punch, we hope you have a great spook-filled weekend!

This is by far my most favourite time of the year – it’s my b-day next week – Tuesday if you’d like to send a card, it’s autumn and I love me some autumn weather, I get to wear tights and stockings every day and best of all, it’s Halloween/Samhain/Day of the dead and I love nothing more than to indulge in allsorts of witchy goodness…

    hocuspocus

Hocus Pocus – Ohhh I love this movie – any excuse to check out SJP and Bette Midler work their magic! 300 years ago, the Sanderson sisters had bewitched people. Now it’s Halloween 1993 and Max Dennison has lit the candle that would bring the witches back to life! Now Max, Allison, and Dani must save all the kids in Salem from the witches including leader Winifred, goofy Sarah, and high-strung Mary who will steal the lives of children!

This October 31st, what better prodz to use to remove your halloween face paint and keep your skin looking clear and healthy with the Witch Cleansing and Toning Wipes (£1.95 for 5 or £3.91 for 25). Quick and easy to use, the wipes will leave your skin feeling refreshed and clean and remove any traces of your ghoulish vampire make up!

Put a spell on boykind with the Bewitching Burgundy Eye Kit from www.kittenvixen.com. Bewitching Burgundy is black with a hint of Burgundy, which, when applied to brown eyes, creates a rich intense undertone. On blue eyes, it creates hints of lilac; on green eyes, it’s simply stunning.

Thanks to my gorgeous friend Jase, I am a total Charmed freak – LOVE it.  Set in my favourite city in the world, San Francisco, the ‘Charmed Ones’ journey from modern-day witches to sizzling supernatural siblings in episode after episode of enchanting entertainment.  I NEED this boxset, if anyone wants to put a spell on me, they could do much worse than to buy me this for my birthday, which is next Tuesday people, did I mention that? It’s packed with beautiful beings – the boys of Charmed are HOT. Nick Lachey, I heart you – sensational storylines, remarkable special effects and emotional turmoil – Charmed: Seasons 1-8 is the perfect brew of supernatural entertainment.

“Why yes, my eyes are rather pretty, aren’t they?”

This has been my standard response to the gazillion compliments I’ve got over the last week since rockin’ Kitten Vixen Bewitching Burgundy eye kit. What’s that? Who are Kitten Vixen? Only my new favourite make-up brand. EVER.

Geraldine Shaker, make-up artist to the stars and one half of the fabu combo who created Kitten Vixen, believes that just as a well-tailored outfit enhances our figure and draws attention to our best assets, using the right tones on our face can make us appear significantly more beautiful.

Geraldine and her sister, Shanti created Kitten Vixen Cosmetics, Inc. to demystify the cosmetic use of colour. The brand offers women the colour knowledge of a professional make-up artist in a simple, fun way. The shades in the range are based on universal beauty colours that compliment all facial color spectrums regardless of age or ethnicity, by enhancing unique tones in eyes, lips and skin.

We’ve asked the gorgeous Miss Geraldine, who’s work has appeared all over the world, on catwalks from London to Milan to the billboards of the US and Australia, to share her Sassy beauty secrets and because she’s a total doll, she has – j’adore.

My first Jessica Adams book, Cool For Cats, was bought for me by my boyf at the time, and while he has since been banished to ex-boyfriend-ville, Jessica and her books have remained a much-loved constant in my world.

Jessica is not just a kick-ass author, she’s the astrologer for Vogue and Cosmopolitan – I know: cool, right? She’s got two homes, one in Brighton and one in Australia – yep, I’m envy-green too and her new book, Shall I Stay is her best book, s’far. According to me, obv.

    The Shall I Stay blurb:
When Alice met Nash, she fell head over heels. Two years later, she can’t quite remember what it was that had seemed so brilliant about him. All they do is argue – especially about money. In a last-ditch attempt to save their relationship, they agree to leave rainy England behind and emigrate to Australia. But when Alice finds out that Nash has been unfaithful, their plans are ruined and she decides to go to Australia alone.

Packing what she can into four suitcases, she heads to Bondi to stay with her cousin. Australia is a very strange place where everything seems upside down and anything over two syllables is abbreviated. Will Alice ever be able to lose her English inhibitions and relax into the Aussie way of life? Can she ever find a proper job? And, more importantly, will she be able to control herself around Joel, her extremely attractive Australian cousin?

There are days when I wake up and thank the goddess-girls for giving me quite possibly the sweetest life – today, mon minxes, is one of those days.

    Why?

Because I get to interview one of my all-time favourite inspir-o-girls, Miss Karen Salmonsohn – excuse me, I’m just going to do my happy dance.

Karen rock and rules. This is factuality. You want reasons? I’ll give you reasons – she basically creates self-help books for people who wouldn’t be caught dead reading self-help books. Famous people like Madonna and Deepak Chopra heart her. She’s written 29 books and sold over a million. Her books have kick-ass titles like How to Survive in Business Without a Penis. She’s funny, really funny. She’s gone where there was no path and made her own high-heeled footprints. Want me to go on?

Her new book, Prince Harming Syndrome – How to Break Bad Relationship Patterns for Good – 5 essentials for finding True Love is different to any other relationship book you’ll ever read. It offers a new strategy for successful love relationships based on the ancient Greek philosophy of Aristotle delivered with her unique and bold sense of humour.

If you’re a li’l bit cynical about the boy-shaped variety, think that you always attract the bad ‘uns and don’t know why or you’re staying in a not-nice relationship because you think it’ll get better, then you, sweet thing, are suffering from Prince HARMING Syndrome. The cure? This book.  Make no mistake, Miss K takes no prisoners, she’ll tell you how it is, but if you want to cure yourself of Prince Harming Syndrome and bag yourself your very own Prince Charming, then you absolutely, positively NEED to read this book.

After you’ve met the lady herself that is. Believe me, she’s awesome. FREAKIN’ awesome. Okay – gush-fest over – go meet her.

Ohh, I love me a vintage ensemble,  pretty, pretty clothes with history – j’adore.

If you, like me, are retro-hearted, then you will dig www.retrochick.co.uk – a swoony-swoon site that helps you discover your own personal style by finding the best in affordable vintage, and ethical fashion and making it work everyday. I’m a total fan-girl and love, love, love creator-girl, Miss Gemma Seager, mainly because she believes in the following:

    • Fashion doesn’t have to cost the earth, in any sense
    • Style never goes out of fashion
    • There isn’t much that can’t be made better by a nice cup of tea
    • If you’re nice to people they’ll be nice back.

You love her too now, right?

It’s National Chocolate Week – hurrah! And I for one, feel it’s a week absolutely worth celebrating. Being a Sassy Minx, I confess to occasionally eating a little bit for breakfast, or mixed with a splash of vodka in a cocktail. If I’m completely honest, I probably celebrate this week nearly everyday.

So go and grab a bit of something sweet – it is a Monday after all – and join in the celebrations! I’m all for believing that a bit of something you fancy, does you good….

Two of my most favourite things in the whole wide world are Take That and SingStar, which is why I’m stretching on my ‘I heart Take That’ tee circa 1995, and practicing my near-perfect rendition of Back for Good because the boys from Take That will be very special guests along with a list of well known names at the SingStar Extravaganza on October 22nd.

The event is being held at The Tabernacle in West London to mark the forthcoming release of SingStar Take That on PlayStation 3. The event, which will be staged in aid of charity Body & Soul, will be a homage to all things Take That – seriously, what’s not to love about that?!

In one of their first public appearances since the record breaking The Circus Live Tour (which sold over 1.2 million tickets) the band will join the lucky guests as they test their skills on an exclusive preview of SingStar Take That.

The evening will be curated by London’s leading event planner Fran Cutler. Guests can also look forward to special DJ sets and Take That performances from the likes of Guilty Pleasures, Robots in Disguise, Queens of Noize, Jonny Woo & Derren Smart and a host of surprise celebrity guests.

    Date: 22nd October 2009

    20090626-marc-jacobs-lola-perfume

Sound the trumpets, cue the marching band – if you’re looking for the epitome of all things Sassy Minx, then look no further than Marc Jacobs’ Lola – lo-lo-lo-lo-Lola.

My most favourite song in the whole wide world - Lola by The Kinks, The main character in my book, Think Pink – Lola Love, my new favourite perfume – Lola by Marc Jacobs.

I instantly had a lot of love for this bottle of fabulousness, but seriously, it’s as if MJ has been hangin’ in the world o’ sassy and minx-yness and created a perfume that’s all about us. The bottle is a resident of Glamazonia, it’s completely over-the-top and looks awful pretty on your dressing table and it smells…well, it smells dee-vine.

It’s a fruity, floral fragrance, filled with notes of pear, grapefruit, pink peppercorn, peony, rose, and geranium, which, believe me, is quite possibly the best combo of yummy-scrummyness you’ll ever sniff.

Spray it on, feel fabulous and collect compliments from boy-kind for the forseeable future.

Marc Jacobs – I heart you.
