    J’adore kissing. Kissing should be compulsory EVERY day.

    It’s no secret that I adore love, and this movie is love personified, which is why Moulin Rouge is my favourite movie. EVAH. It was also the first movie I saw with the only boy I’ve ever loved… sigh.

    Come to the Edge

    Come to the edge.
    We might fall.
    Come to the edge.
    It’s too high!
    Come to the edge!
    And they came,
    And he pushed,
    And they flew.

    It’s already known that I have a LOT o’ love for Love from Hetty & Dave – we interviewed the lady behind the label last year – and it’s no wonder when she makes bee-you-tiful heart-shaped loveliness like this, is it?

Whether you’re recovering from a broken heart or you’ve been single for a long time, this 25 minute hypno track will help you to appreciate that you don’t need to ‘couple up’ to feel terrific and get the most out of life – you’ll be doing that naturally. What’s more, when ‘the one’ does happen to cross your path, the more intuitive, confident you is far more likely to spot ‘em!

    This is like a big full-fat bar of chocolate for the soul, all the good stuff but without the calories – I love it!

    This year, Miss Aimz is baking red velvet cupcakes and icing them for her beau, but she would also recommend making them for a love-in with your friends. He doesn’t know it was the wedding cake in Steel Magnolias, but this pink-tinted vanilla-chocolate treat is the trailer-trash of cakes and frankly, they rock!

    2722561177_77731d28d9

    Try this recipe from Xanthe Clay, foodie on The Telegraph

    Red Velvet Cupcakes

    * 5oz/140g self-raising flour
    * 2 tbsp cocoa
    * Half tsp bicarbonate of soda
    * 4floz/110ml buttermilk
    * 1 tsp vinegar
    * Half tsp vanilla extract
    * 1 tbsp red food colouring
    * 2oz/60g butter at room temperature
    * 6oz/170g caster sugar
    * 1 large egg

    To decorate:

    * Cream-cheese frosting (see box) and fresh cherries

    Preheat the oven to 170C/325F/gas mark 3. Line a 12-hole cup cake tin with cases.

    In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa, bicarb and a pinch of salt. In a mug, mix the buttermilk, vinegar, vanilla and red food colouring.

    Beat the butter and sugar together until pale and fluffy. Beat in the egg a little at a time. Mix in a third of the flour mixture, followed by half the buttermilk mixture, then another third of the flour, the rest of the buttermilk and finally the last of the flour mixture.

    Divide the mixture between the paper cases. Bake for 20 minutes, until risen and springy – don’t overcook them.

    Cool on a rack.

    I never realised the importance of the saying ‘if you don’t ask, you don’t get’ until the very end of last year. And ask, I certainly had at the beginning of 2009.

    My list read a little like this…

    I want to be a success as the head of a lingerie brand
    To finish my novel
    To write for a fashion publication
    To find a boyfriend who is nice, funny and passionate but who also looks after me as an equal
    Maintainance of a body that is pleasureful
    Health that is healthy
    A smile that laughs consistently
    and finally – phew! – to meet new people that are genuine, inspiring and honest, whilst maintaining the friendships I already have.

    I didn’t know if any of it was going to happen, but I wanted it to and I was willing to take whatever action was necessary for a success-filled 2009.
    Nothing, however, could have prepared me for the joys, the sadness, and the changes that occurred in me as a woman in the space of a year. 2009 was a year of honesty and truth for me, even if that truth, cliché as it sounds, bloody hurts sometimes.

    I can’t believe it’s been 2 whole months since Miss Aimz and I hit New York and we’ve not even shared our sassy adventures with you…Well, it was a whole lot o’ awesomeness, but you’d expect nothing less when the minxes hit the city that never sleeps, right? Fred Flare, Greenpoint, Brooklyn
    I have been a fan-girl o’ Fred Flare and their gorgeous merch for years now, they’ve now got a pile o’ bricks in Brooklyn and the Fred Flare shop sure is location cutesville! We hung out with the fabu Bilgin and Bee, purched some merch – well, it’d be rude to go all that way and not, right? – and had a mini photoshoot with the girls starring on their very own blogginz! Head out to Brooklyn on the L train and go find the cuteness!

    While you’re in Brooklyn, hit the vintage shops of which there are plenty and buy cute pillar box hats like Miss Aimz…

    Go find Patrica Field. Step inside and indulge. Need I say more? The staff are so hip and fabulous and there’s just enough pink and leopard print to make me the happiest girl in happyville!

    Dylans Candy Bar may be owned by a super-rich ‘it’ girl, but I don’t care, because it’s filled-to-the brim with yummy scrummy candy deliciousness that you simply have to witness, and taste – natch, for yourself. They also have super-complimentary staff – those guys do wonders for a girl’s self-esteem and if you’re lucky you’ll catch a VERY cute boy on the promo stand who may over-share about his boy exploits with you.

    We got our burlesque on at downtown New York locale, The Slipper Rooms. It was a li’l bit dark, a li’l bit dive-y and a whole lot of glam-girls pulling seriously saucy moves…

    Me mid-Bloomie’s makeover.

    The Yves Saint Laurent beauty counter in Bloomingdales. It’s a li’l bit of heaven right here on earth, and I’m not even exaggerating. We met an adorbz make-up artist called Miranda who made us both real pretty and then helped us to part with a whole lot of crazy cash for beauty prods in bee-you-tiful gold packaging…Le sigh.

    Bloomingdales 1000 Third Ave, between 59th and 60th streets.

    The soundtrack to our entire trip…

    We’ve still got so much to share, we’ll follow up with part 2 and 3 very soon – in the meantime, we’d love to know what your New York highlights are…

    Yep, I’ve said it. And I’m waving my hands in a jazz hand motion above my head as I’m saying it.

    I didn’t think it was possible to love a teev programme more than I loved Ugly Betty, but it turns out that’s only because I’d not seen Glee. It’s impossible to choose a stand-out moment, although ‘Don’t Stop Believin’ is never out of my head, but j’adore this not-seen-in-the-UK-yet clip because there is nothing I love more than a diva-off – Kurt, I heart you combined with Defying Gravity – my absolute go-girl power song. Before an important meeting, presentation or workshop, I’ll play this on my ipod, and it’ll fill me with complete SASSYfication so I’m prepped and ready for any situation.

    There is seriously nothing not to love about Glee. It celebrates difference, it’s quirky, it’s filled with killer tunes, I’m crushin’ on the guy with a mohawk and best of all, it makes me smile. A lot.
    Yep, I’m a Gleek.
    So much so, that I’m even diggin’ fan mash ups on youtube – check out this dude, he’s freakin’ awesome…

    Needless to say I have the soundtrack on pre-order – it’s out next Monday, people – my ipod will never be the same again and I’m also thinking of declaring my love via tee with this li’l number…

    I love to play with make-up, so I’m lovin’ the fact those fabu peeps at Orange have teamed up with YouTube phenomenon, Lauren Luke to create five Red Carpet ‘Make Up Look’ tutorials – hurrah!

    To celebrate five years of the BAFTA Orange Rising Star Award there are five stunning make up looks to copy, from 2008 Orange Rising Star Award winner Eva Green’s statement smoky eyes to 2010 nominee Carey Mulligan’s natural English rose make up. In true Lauren Luke style, the vids are shot in her bedroom and show Lauren applying the look step-by-step to her own face in order for us to work her techniques.

    FYI: The 2010 Orange Rising Star Award nominees are Jesse Eisenberg, Nicholas Hoult, Carey Mulligan, Tahar Rahim and Kristen Stewart and the winner will be unveiled on Sunday 21 February 2010 at the Orange British Academy Film Awards – exciting! We love an award ceremony – the dresses, the make-up – le sigh. We’re team Kristen!

    You can watch all five videos at: www.orange.co.uk/bafta

    I heart Alice and as it’s the month o’ love, it’s only right and proper that I share the love. Alice and I met in Costa Coffee, she told me I had amazing hair, she made the best hot chocolate in the world AND gave me extra marshmallows – needless to say, it was an insta-mutual girl-crush situ!

    Alice is now a blog-girl and chefette, think Nigella, only younger and a whole lot sassier – check out her recipes and cookery goodness at: amourandpsyche.blogspot.com but not before you’ve ooh-ed and ahhh-ed at her prettilicious ways AND baked her V-day cookies – if you do try them, we want to know whether they woo your beau!

    -1I’m a newbie astro-girl. For sure, I’ve read a gazillion books, I’m addicted to the David Wells forecast in Spirit and Destiny magazine and I’m currently on an astrology course that frazzles my brain with talk of sextiles and sesquiquadrates, but no one makes astrology more fun and accessible than the ever-so funny and – sssh, don’t tell him – ever-so hot, US-based astrologer, Matthew Currie.

    Matthew has been a pro astro-boy and counselor for 20 years, with numerous appearances on television and radio. He writes The Daily Sky at Sasstrology.com, blogs the Clueless About Dating at Astrology.com, and writes his own blog matthewastrology.blogspot.com As if that didn’t keep him busy enough, he’s author of a beyond fabulous e-book series, and host consultations with people across the world – I’ve got one this afternoon, I’m all kinds of excited about it! Come meet him, he’s awesome. Fact.

    I am currently obsessed with Nigella. I can’t help it, I want to cook cupcakes in high heels and wear ever-so pretty retro-style aprons while I do it. Which is why I’m crushing on the Cupcake Provocateur. A super-fabulous Americano who has a fondness for vintage inspired styles, food and music of the pin up era. She’s inspired by the June Cleaver type of wholesomeness combined with the class and glamour of Donna Reed and the sexiness of Marilyn Monroe and Betty Paige – it’s like we were actually separated at birth. Come meet her, she’s simply dee-voom.

    This is our first minx-y interview with a British music gal, and I can’t begin to tell you how happy I am to introduce you to Jessica Spencer, the creator and lead singer of Hall of Mirrors. I’m not only so immensely inspired/amazed yet slightly haunted by her songs and lyrics, but also incredibly proud of her as she is my amazing friend and has not only got herself gigs, but a publishing and record deal too – wohhoo – with bigger things to come. So, in an exclusive interview with SM, here is the very Sassy and ever-so Minx-y, Ms Jessica Spencer.
