    flick-drummond

Flick Drummond is the Conservative parliamentary candidate for Portsmouth South.

    Tell us more about yourself…….
I am 47, married with 4 children aged 17-22. I have had a varied career as an insurance broker in London, a school inspector for Ofsted, a member of the Community Health council, local chairman of the National Childbirth Trust and recently wrote the report for the social workers commission.

Who/what inspired you to go into politics?
When I was looking at local schools for my children, they had 40 in reception, did not do phonics and had no after school clubs. I think the education system has improved since those days but there is still a lot to do to improve standards and establish technical schools, as not everyone is academic and can shine in other ways.

What do you love most about being a woman in the world?
We are lucky that we have so many choices and can have varied careers.

What is your proudest moment yet?
    Having my children.

What are your five must-have, can’t live without fashion and beauty items?
E45, black trousers, contact lenses, eye liner and mascara.

Who are your female icons and why?
Mothers – the hardest job in the world

    What is your life motto?
    Live life to the full

What has the Conservative party got to offer to our demographic and how are you making the moves to back this up?
We have a separate policy for women and a shadow minister for women, Theresa May MP, which shows how important they are to us.

Our policy includes measures to tackle the gender pay gap, including stronger legislation to prevent employers discriminating and better careers guidance for young women.

We also want to give flexible working for all parents with children under the age of 18 and flexible parental leave so that parents can decide how to divide maternity leave between them.

Another policy is to tackle violence against women, including a greater focus on preventative work in schools, better training for police and front-line professionals and new rape crisis centres.

A Conservative government will follow a joined-up, common sense approach to women’s issues and make our society fairer for everybody, and I will be backing any policy that achieves this.

WeCanDoItPoster[1]-thumbFor the first four days of this week, The Sassy Minx is going to be a little bit different.

It’s unusual for us to reference all things politics as, but with election fever gripping the country amidst the upcoming General Election, it’s become very difficult to ignore the ongoing press feuds between parties and confusion about the policies they plan on implementing through the press.

Both of The Sassy Minxes have been thinking about the changes that could stem from the election, what with Lisa, having visited the House of Commons earlier this year, regarding her important work with young people, and myself losing my job in the avoidable (?) recession last year, it seems that whoever is elected into parliament needs to address that Britain needs some TLC in most areas. Except Lisa and I really don’t know who to vote for, especially as I avoid reading any sort of mainstream media literature as that seems to focus on the arguments in parliament rather than actually delivering facts of what is being done, or what will be done to help improve situations.

As positive young women, it’s difficult to find politicians to relate to, especially as there are only very few female MP’s.

We both follow Sarah Brown on Twitter, and Samantha Cameron is often documented on the pages of magazines like Grazia, due to her work with Mulberry, but this is the easy option for us, as these are the wives of politicians and don’t delve so deeply into the actual situations that are affecting our country.

I like Theresa May’s shoes, but it took the tabloid pages to tell me about them in the first place, and we both knew who Maggie Thatcher, Mo Mowlam and the suffragettes, who actually enabled us as women to vote, were. If I am honest, I know more about Michelle Obama and Carla Bruni, respective wives of the US and French presidents than I do about ANY female politician in this country, and I would like to think that I am an intelligent woman with a voice of her own.

With this in mind, we thought that it would be helpful if a female representative from each party could fill us in on what their plans are, how they will back this up, or what actions they’re taking now. Not only that, but what is suitable for our demographic as young women, some of us single career girls, some of us working mothers and wives/girlfriends, from all different walks of life. So that’s what we’ve done.

The next three days, are dedicated to a female MP representative from each of the three main political parties-Conservatives, Lib Dems and Labour. I also considered-but then reconsidered-trying to gain an interview with a female member of the BNP, as I have found out many of my peers, men and women, are going to be voting for them, which rightly/wrongly, alarms me slightly. We hope you see that we have delivered an unbiased set of interviews, and we hope that they can help you to believe that your vote and voice, does, and must, count.

    We also thought that to lighten this up somewhat, we would deliver some Sassy Manifesto’s of our own. We want to know;

a;) What manifesto do you make for yourself?
b.) What would you do if you could be in charge of the country or what would you like to see?

Please remember we will not publish anything that’s negative, but we’d LOVE to know what you would do, if you were in charge!

    AIMEE’S MANIFESTO:
a.) To work towards maintaining a healthy body, ready for summer! So lots of good food, rest and excercise!
b.) I would like to see a minimum wage pay rise that reflects the cost of living – it is very difficult to be able to live beyond rent and utility outgoings, and life isn’t just for working! I earn above the minimum wage and I don’t ever know how I will be able to afford a house of my own, let alone a wedding or a child.

    LISA’S MANIFESTO
a.) To make chocolate free for women for an entire week each month – just think how many arguments would be spared, boykind, you should totally vote for this…
b.) To make sure young girls are taught about self-esteem and positive body image from age 6 and upwards – this is my big project for after the election – bring it!
c.) That everyone should be issued with a pair of pink-tinted shades – the world is a much, much better place with them on…
d.) That people HAVE to smile at each other on the tube – c’mon, lighten up commuter types!

I’ve always been a huge fan of Lancome Juicy tubes, and have collected dozens, since they were released ten years ago by the fabulous French brand. To celebrate their tenth birthday, they have teamed up with the super Japanese artist Yayoi Kusama to design the packaging for the Limited Edition shades and fragrances. The collectables are only available at Debenhams, so get your lips poppin’!

    PARISCC
The beau and I move into our flat this weekend and I am super excited that he is letting me do all the interiors to decorate. I discovered this gorgeous pillow from Hunkydory, and it WILL be sitting on my sofa! That Paris magic, just never fails to work!

    target-liberty
Talking of interiors, one of my favourite stores, Liberty, has got a few collaborations worth visiting for this Spring. It has just released a brilliant range with Target, the famous American store, with affordable printed crockery, stationery, clothing, homewares and even bicycles! Also, on the fourth floor, there is a Daisy de Villeneuve exhibition called ‘In Her Shoes’ an eclectic mix of her illustrations and products. Flower girls are definitely blooming this season!

    easter-cow
Finally, it is Easter Weekend and I for one am looking forward to not only having a few days holiday, but celebrating the festival with my family. And chomping on one of these Milkybar cow easter eggs. I’m sorry Bluebell, but I just can’t resist you!

Failure and rejection is a chance for us to learn lessons. Every member of the FORTUNE 500 CLUB could be a member in the MISFORTUNE 500 CLUB. Successful people aren’t people who never fail or get rejected. They’re people who know how to fail and get rejected very well. If they fall on their face, they use the leverage to push higher. Bill Gates relished lessons of rejection and failure so much he purposefully hires peeps who’ve made mistakes because it showed risk taking. Awesome sauce.

Ohhhhh, author-crush alert. Belinda Jones writes the most awesome travel chick lit – I love nothing more than to go travelling to exotic locales with Belinda’s heroines and I’m very excited to have a preview copy of her new book Livin’ La Vida Loca, I’ll be interviewing Belinda soon – wohhooo – but ’til then let me whet your book-reading appetite with the book blurb…

Carmen has been feeling the need to break free for Too Darn Long. So when her equally frustrated friend Beth suggests the ultimate escape – dancing their way through a series of scorchingly-hot countries – she can’t resist!

There’s just one catch… they can only go on this adventure if they participate in a reality TV show, one intent on teaching them the mournful tango in Argentina, the feisty flamenco in Spain and the sassy, celebratory salsa in Cuba!

As they travel from Buenos Aires to Seville and ultimately steamy Havana, each dance has a profound effect on the girls – and indeed the sexy gauchos, matadors and dirty dancers who partner them…

But, when the sun goes down, do they have what it takes to go beyond the steps and free their hearts for love?

I heart Mini Viva and their new single ‘One Touch’ is set to be one of the pop highlights of the year, fo sho. It’s out on 10 May and this seems a very long time to wait for a track this good. Check out the amazing dance moves – you’ll be imitating them in your boudoir and on the dance floor as well as coveting the dee-lish looking cakes.

Oh, and if you love this video, you can get a weekly helping of Mini Viva in their online show Viva Mini Viva. It’s LIVE every Friday, 4.30pm – 5pm from their Ustream channel: http://www.ustream.tv/vivaminiviva.
