May 17th, 2010Beauty Queen, Girls On Top, Inner Minx, Passionista, Prod LoveThey say that the best teachers never stop learning, and here, at The Sassy Minx, we love to find new things and have a go at them for ourselves. Whilst I’ve indulged in pole-dancing and cookery, and Lisa in tarot and hula-hooping, it’s fair to say, we are big fans of educating ourselves.
Here are our top tips for this springs uniquely fun and crafty salons…

Super Swingers and Fascinators…
We have mentioned Ruka@ Sugarlesque and What Katie Did, a few times on Sassy already, so we are quite excited that they’ve decided to team up on nipple-tassle and hat making classes at the Portobello Road boutique. Pastie swingers can learn how to embellish and create burlesque nipple covers for £30.00, and top-hat or fascinator lovers can go wild with feathers, ribbons and trimmings for £45.00. The classes on Sunday 6th June and Sunday 4th July, run from 12.30 to 5.30 and if you choose to go to both, they are available at the lower price of £65.00.Find out more at www.whatkatiedid.com, or to book, email sugar@sugarlesque.com.

Neck-a-loada this…
We told you a few weeks ago, that one of our favourite jewellery makers, has shut its doors to the public, but this is still not stopping Leona Baker at Lady Luck Rules OK!, from sharing her wisdom with the world. From personalising glittery broken hearts, printed acrylic pendants, fuzzy wooden animals and learning about techniques that can be applied to not only jewellery, but clothing, stationary and homeware, her workshops promise to teach you about the beginnings of product making, like where to buy materials and sampling, to finishing and detailed production information. The three hour classes run on the 23rd, 25th May and 12th June at Superette, Off Brick Lane, in London and are only £25.00.
For more information, email; leona@ladyluckrulesok.com

Beauty-Queen…
Nadira Persaud AKA the Make-Up Mistress, has made up the faces of many: Jaime Winstone, Beverley Knight, Denise Van Outen to name a few, and has also created the make-up and hair for Agent Provocateur and various ELLE and Marie Claire shoots. Now she’s on-hand to offer her expert advice, with her Makeup Mistress Makeover.. Teaching you how to perfect your makeup, she will educate you how to get Lush luxurious Lashes, and show you how to achieve an instant face lift with her High Brow lift. Not only this, she will go through your makeup bag and show you what works-and doesn’t work, so you have star quality all the time.
Contact Nadira through her website;www.nadiramakeupmistress.com

Please Yourself…
Getting to know yourself is one of the most intimate and expressive things you can do, and those clever people at Coco De Mer in London, have formulated a whole range of erotic-based salons from Tricks to Please a Man, Spanking and our featured Please yourself, which is all about female masturbation. Rachel Foux is on hand to teach how to do this and show you how to make the most of your, uhm, potential. Apparently even the staff at Coco De Mer, who are highly experienced in the sexual arts, learned a lot from this lecture, so it’s surely saying something!

Miss Lisa and I are all for a cardigan or a hoodie over a dress, and frankly, you can’t get more rock ‘n’ roll right now, than Siren . Especially when their new collection is modelled by one of the coolest models in the land right now, Ben Grimes. With a hint of tattoo, a dash of embellishment and lashings of lace and leather mixed with unicorns, ruffles, skulls and leopard print, its a grown-up girl dream.
One of my personal favourites is the Chanelesque navy blue cardigan with the heart and butterfly embellishment-It is simply adorbz!

To help celebrate the new collection, Siren have invited all Sassy Minxes to their store with an exclusive discount code: SIRENSASSY which means you get 10% all of their wares until the 18th March. What’s not to love about that?! -
March 1st, 2010Girls On Top, Prod LoveNow I am all for a bit of china, especially when it comes to settling down to a nice cup of tea, a few fondant fancies and a good book. Which was why my insides did a little jump for joy when I found Trixie Delicious, a continuous range of china, that isn’t necessarily traditional but frankly rocks my world. I want to put the Seven Heavenly Virtues up on my wall, put my junk jewellery into the Stash jar, and stain the Tart teacup with my red lipstick marks. Meet Karen and enjoy the fabulousness behind it all!

Who/what inspires you and why?
Inspiration comes from everywhere- websites tv programmes, magazines, books, shop windows, people on the street…I try and write ideas down, as I go along, but it doesn’t always work out. I’m my own harsh critic and discard allot when I read them back. What do you love about being a woman in the world?
I’ve always enjoyed fashion and I guess women have more scope with that, than guys. I don’t mind getting older because I’m happy to swap wrinkle free skin for wisdom.. The world has changed a lot since I grew up in the 70s, and I think it is better for women now. The internet has definitely improved the global female network . I live in New Zealand which has a larger female population than male so macho attitudes have had to change as well and here we have had strong female role models- a female PM and Governor General in the last decade.
Where are your five must-go destinations for inspiration, life..
I have had a long relationship with the USA, – Got married in NYC in 1994, honeymooned in San Fran and I have travelled many times to LA.Oaxaca Mexico where I spent a fabulous birthday. I’m a Halloween baby which coincides with the Day of the Dead celebrations. Tripping through a graveyard, drinking tequila, while mariachi bands and fireworks blasted away, was an experience I’ll never forget.
Melbourne Australia- great city, pretty architecture, fabulous food.
New Zealand’s South Island- beautiful scenic roads with no one on them!
Auckland city.I was born here and have lived here all my life so it is home. The city has grown up a lot in the last decade and is becoming more cosmopolitan which is a good thing.
What has been your proudest moment so far?
Giving birth twice- I have a son and daughter.
Which five tracks make Karen’s day?
I’m a Bowie fan and I love Starman
I have too many musical loves to say…
What are your five must-have, can’t live without fashion and beauty items?
Eyeliner
Niki de Sainte Phalle eyeshadow kit- outrageous colours, hard to find
Red lipstick
Good moisturiser
I’m a fan of tinted moisturisers as I don’t like powder.Niki de Sainte Phalle perfume- hard to find
What makes you jump-in-the-air happy?
A sense of achievement. Graduating from art school after 4 years. Its tough been a student for so long- going without money etc..What is your life Motto?.
Don’t just talk about it, do it!!
What is next for Trixie Delicious, and what is your favourite ever piece?
I put together a set of Seven Deadly Sins out of old chipped plates and used different fonts on each. It hangs above my bed and I can’t part with them.
Trixie will just keep going the same way maybe I will develop my own online shop one of these days-see motto…now that I’ve said it I’ll have to do it!Quick fire round: What’s your favourite?
Shop: Etsy
Book: Many but I like a good bio- Keith Richards by Victor Bockris- hilarious
Website/blog:Badder Homes and Gardens.com- they are wickedly funny naughty and gorgeous girls
Hang-out: Boatshed on the Kaipara harbour, 2 hrs north of Auckland
City: LA
Must-have beauty item:eyeliner – it’s an 80s hangover!
TV prog: Hung
Food: My husbands pasta dishes- he was Italian in a former life. What does the term Sassy Minx mean to you, Karen?

February 24th, 2010Prod LoveIn the words of Miss Tammy Wynette, ’sometimes its hard to be a woman’. There are definitely some times of the month when this proves to be the case, right? However, I’ve found a little hero in Seven Seas new range called Femibion that I have to tell you about…

Femibion is a colour-coded range of feel-good supplements created specifically for women, and aims to target different stages of well-being. ‘Balance’ is for everyday, ‘Radiance’ is for girls that lead an incredibly active lifestyle, ‘Pregnancy’ for when a girl NEEDS her Omega 3, ‘Wellbeing Mum’ for new mummas and ‘Menopause’ for that next stage of womanhood.

I’ve been taking the pink ‘Balance’ for over five months now and I cannot pimp it enough. As someone that naturally has a hormone imbalance, I’ve been combining it with other supplements that I have to take to regulate my moods and my time o’ the month. I prefer to take holistic therapy instead of medicinal injections that my doctor recommends, so it has been a real bonus to not only feel calmer, less aggressive and weepy, but to have pretty nails that are stronger, hair that is shiny and skin that looks more polished too – hurrah!
So, in case you were wondering I LOVE this prod, they make me feel suitably more sassier than I’ve felt for ages.
FYI: Just so you know, yes, we WERE sent these to trial, but we will ALWAYS, ALWAYS be completely honest with you about what we think, and the minxes will NEVER promote any prods we haven’t tried and tested our sweet selves ‘k?!!
Avaialble from most chemists and supermarkets.

All the nice girls love a sailor, so get caught by a wrong-un in this “Your Eyes Lie’ vest, 30.00. Perfect for jeans and lazy days, its worth throwing your sensible cap off for.

February 9th, 2010Life Candy, Prod LoveYep, I’ve said it. And I’m waving my hands in a jazz hand motion above my head as I’m saying it.
I didn’t think it was possible to love a teev programme more than I loved Ugly Betty, but it turns out that’s only because I’d not seen Glee. It’s impossible to choose a stand-out moment, although ‘Don’t Stop Believin’ is never out of my head, but j’adore this not-seen-in-the-UK-yet clip because there is nothing I love more than a diva-off – Kurt, I heart you combined with Defying Gravity – my absolute go-girl power song. Before an important meeting, presentation or workshop, I’ll play this on my ipod, and it’ll fill me with complete SASSYfication so I’m prepped and ready for any situation.
There is seriously nothing not to love about Glee. It celebrates difference, it’s quirky, it’s filled with killer tunes, I’m crushin’ on the guy with a mohawk and best of all, it makes me smile. A lot.
Yep, I’m a Gleek.
So much so, that I’m even diggin’ fan mash ups on youtube – check out this dude, he’s freakin’ awesome…Needless to say I have the soundtrack on pre-order – it’s out next Monday, people – my ipod will never be the same again and I’m also thinking of declaring my love via tee with this li’l number…

Are you lovin’ Glee? Who’s your favourite character? What’s your stand out moment s’far? Fellow Gleeks, unite.

I can’t believe it’s taken me so long to intro you to my partner in all things pink, Miss KittyPinkStars. She’s a kooky girl who lives in a candy pink gingerbread house full of crafting, kittens, rainbows, toys, love and craziness! She makes a rainbow collection of sock creatures that all have their very own felt friend. Inspired by her love of super bright colours, Japanese fruits, sweet treats, cartoons and all things kawaii and all made from the doodles that she thinks up in her bee-you-tiful candy floss mind! Come meet her, she’s freakin’ adorbz. Fact.

I am ALL about the pale.
I completely embrace my Kelly-O complexion and will never, ever be found without a parasol in the summer months, but it seems that it’s no longer just myself, Kelly O and Nicole Kidman flying the flag for pale, I don’t know whether it’s the British weather or the latest vampire trend – I’m Team Jacob, in case you were wondering – according to online beauty store Feelunique.com, sales of pale powders and foundations have soared by 200%.
“Porcelain skin is a classic, chic and glamorous look, but has long been shunned in favour of bronzed skin,” says Siobhan McDermott, head buyer at Feelunique.com. “It’s great to see that this trend is making women proud to be pale.” Get the look by dusting on the suits-all Bare Escentuals illuminating Veil, £19, at Bareescentuals.co.uk -
