June 24th, 2009Beauty Queen, Girls On Top
Meet Trish, she is the gorgeous girl behind the sweet-smelling deliciousness that is Principessa. Not only is Principessa Italian-o inspired, and I LOVE me all things Italian-o, it has the prettiest packaging a girly-girl could wish for and the smell? Well, I know I’m meant to be good with the words and all, but when it comes to Principessa prodz, there is only one – dee-vine.
I desperately want to know what makes the prodz smell so amazing but Trish isn’t telling…
“…With Principessa, I’ve created a signature scent that is exquisitely sheer, soft, sweet, sexy, and secret; formulas that will leave your skin feeling luxuriously silky wrapped in packaging designed for the feminine and whimsical urban princess…”
Bella, bella!
Trish, what is it you do exactly?
I’m a beauty guru. Isn’t that a great title?
What is Principessa, why and how did you set it up and what do you love most about it?
Principessa is a line of indulgent spa quality products designed to work and smell as good as they look. I used to be on the retail side of cosmetics and really thought there was a hole in the market for a niche line of products that I felt sure I could create. Often I found I liked the packaging of a product but didn’t like the performance or scent and felt frustrated and always in search of the perfect product. When my husband and I sold our previous business I had the opportunity to really soul search and think about what I really wanted to do and more than anything I wanted to create Principessa. The absolute best thing about the job is when you get e-mails or phone calls from people raving about the products and loving them much like your e-mail to me. It really makes you feel as though you are doing something right and it’s worth all the work! Can you tell us a bit about your daily routine – do you get involved in what actually goes into the prods, do you have to be creative and business like? What’s a typical day like for you?
I love my day! I get to go to the most feminine pink office ever. We have chandeliers and white desks with crystal knobs and it’s such a relaxed and creative environment. I absolutely am hands on with all of the activities in the office. Being an entrepreneur you have to wear many hats and have to know every aspect of the business but creating the products is one of my favorite jobs ever. When the lab just “gets†what I want and nails a formula it’s like euphoria. What’s your secret to being beautiful?
Huh? I don’t know about beautiful, but looking your best definitely comes from taking care of yourself. I kind of got sidetracked for a while because I was working so much and stopped taking my own advice about pampering yourself whether it be physically, spiritually or emotionally. I’m really trying to take the time out lately to focus on myself more lately and not lose myself in the business as you really aren’t doing anyone a favor. I have been doing Bikrams yoga, hiking and just started riding my bike to work which is heaven in our current glorious weather. Visiting the spa is another must for inner and outer beauty! What’s your favourite Principessa prod and why?
That’s so hard! Like asking which child a mother prefers. I love them all of course but it does change with the seasons and my current need. I think our lip balm (especially the tin) rocks and is one of the best on the market, when I don’t want to wash my hair our hair powder is the most incredible product and time saver and our new hair care line is to die for! What do you love most about being a woman, right now?
Oh my gosh! What’s not to love? I would never want to be a man and I haven’t experienced a time when it wasn’t fabulous to be a woman but I suppose that did exist. Honestly though (sorry this is cheesy but true) but the best thing for me about being a woman is being married to my gorgeous hubby for 16 years! What’s your greatest achievement?
Um, can I say Principessa? I feel like there are many but this is such a fun one that not only affects and benefits me but many others including our employees, customers, suppliers etc.Your biggest lesson?
Oh, this is easy, not listening to or trusting my gut instinct, hands down.Five must-have items that you could not live without?
Hmmmm, this one’s harder. Maybe excluding all my Principessa products, my laptop, blackberry, iPod (oops, bit of a pattern here) right now my trusty bike, and definitely wine! What five songs would be on a Principessa soundtrack?
I don’t really have any faves and they change all the time. I love all the latest hits on my iPod so I can run to them and if I’m inside on the treadmill sing at the top of my lungs much to my husband and dogs chagrin! What’s your advice for being successful?
Work hard, trust your gut, be persistent and when things go wrong, as they always will pick yourself up dust yourself off and carry on. I find if you look hard enough you can always find a solution to most problems. You may not always love the solution but it’s there none the less…Quick fire round: What’s you’re favourite…
Book: This is cliché but I loved The Secret. It’s really a simple philosophy but a great reminder of the attitude we should all have and I’m obsessed with Jodi Piccoult right now.
Food: Everything except cilantro. I’m a huge foodie and love it almost as much as beauty products!
Clothing label: Juicy for sure. I’m not much of a fashionista and am into casual barefoot luxury
Movie: Sorry, I’m having a hard time just picking one. I loved La Vita é Bella where he calls his wife principessa throughout but Legally Blonde just cracks me up and the Notebook I cried so hard at I couldn’t breathe!!
Music: Right now I’m really loving this chill lounge music to play around the house and it’s just so relaxing and I feel like I’m at the spa
City: Oh, this is hard. How can you pick just one? Vancouver is always at the top of my list no matter how much we travel but Positano & Venice in Italy are pretty magical and I love Hong Kong too. I could go on. This is not a fair question J
Shop: Dean and Deluca (all the best food and wine in one place! What’s not to love?) Oh and the Juicy store! Cannot walk out of there without many bags…
