3427058726_42142bf11e_mGirl-shaped, creative fabulousness is really the only kind of fabulousness, which is why I’m really excited to intro you to Aimee Marie, photo-girl and princess of blog-world.

She lives in a world filled with glitter & sequins, cupcakes, the colour pink, photography, blogging, photo manipulation, baking, travel, clashing colours, retail therapy, journalism and cosmetics…now that, mon amies, is my kinda world!

Her blogginz is a complete treat and she’s adorability on a lolly stick – don’t believe me? Come meet her and see for yourself!

So, who is Aimee Marie? Care to share?
Bonjour! Aimee Marie is a London photographer with a penchant for glitter & girlyness, who regularly immerses herself in the world of photo manipulation, baking & journalism, & indulges in a bit of narcissism every now & then in the form of blogging & self-documenting-photos. She’s an official sponsor of having fun, the colour pink, clashing colours, sequin adoration & generally having a good time!

What 5 tracks would be essential to a Aimee Marie soundtrack to life and why?

Opening credits: No doubt – Just a girl
Falling in love: Jeff Buckley – Everybody Here Wants You — it’s mine & the boys song! Aww, mushy stuff.
Rubbish times: Christina Aguilera – Fighter — I love how feisty she sounds!
Driving scene: 3 of a Kind – Baby Cakes — I have memories of singing along to this with my girlfriends when roadtripping it to a club!
Happy dance: Queen – Don’t Stop Me Now — such an epic tune!

You’re a photographer and we LOVE your work, when did you discover your talent and what do you love most about it?
Thank you! I got my first compact digital camera when I was about 13 or so, because all my internet girly-friends had one & a girl needed some visuals to accompany her blog! It was about 2 megapixels (yup, count ‘em both), but I loved it. I never thought about pursuing a career in anything remotely visually creative, as my school was very pushing in other academic areas, so it was something that was forgotten about for a while.

When I finished my (very boring) A Levels, I met my other half who had just finished at art college & he told me about a photography course there & I got a last minute interview, & thankfully got in! It was the best decision I’ve ever made & I instantly knew I’d found my niche in life. It seemed so obvious– previously I’d always be documenting my life & travels– & my lecturers were inspiring & showed me that jobs in the creative world, while competitive, aren’t entirely impossible!

I really love post-processing & photoshopping & all that jazz. I have a penchant for bright colours & things that are a bit out of the ordinary, so photography really pushes my boundaries & presses my buttons! I love that it’s so portable– I don’t have to whip out canvas’ & paint brushes. It’s also really diverse– one day, I could be photographing political protests & using imagery to argue my point, but the next day I could be snapping away at a beautiful sunset, just because it’s aesthetically pleasing! I think everyone can appreciate a photograph, whether you’re an art-lover or not..

    Who are your style icons?
I don’t really have style icons as such– I like what I like, which is why I find it easier to shop on my own. I trust my own opinion & while my style might not be particularly different from other amazing ladies, I know what’s me & what’s not. I’m a culmination of myself with a few snippets of ordinary girlies I see walking down the street! For example, if I see some amazing eyeliner flicks on a lady, I’ll go home & try to recreate it myself. I think it’s silly to say that any of us are completely individual, as we all take inspiration from others, but at the same time, I don’t have anyone that I look up to & want to be a carbon copy of.

3173618929_d8ab594af1What are your five must-have items?
My diary, definitely! I would totally lose track without it & I love making to-do lists & feeling accomplished when I tick them off. I also couldn’t live without chocolate (although I did give this up for lent, but it was hellish!), my cosmetics (love me a bit o’ shimmer & glitter!), camera or iMac– I’m a real tech-girl & love a gadget!

What era would you like to go back and visit and why?
The 1950s! Photographing pin-ups like Gil Elvgren & Bettie Page would be fab, as well as just indulging in the culture & documenting the amazing dresses & celebrating the hour-glass figure. I’d be all over those big petticoats & a-line skirts, like a rash!

Tell us who inspires you/who you admire and why?
In the photography world, David LaChapelle is my main man! His work is so bright & bold, that sometimes I’m not even looking at the concept behind the photo or the message he’s trying to deliver– I’m just standing in awe of the colours. His work is seamless & I recently saw an exhibition of his in Paris, where I pretty much dragged my jaw round on the floor! I also really love all my contacts on my Flickr photostream. There are some really amazing photographers on there & you can find pictures of anything/anywhere!

    What makes you jump-in-the-air happy?

My boyfriend & my beautiful little niece, sunshine & summer in general, new cosmetics, new blog posts, holidays & trips abroad, finishing the final edits of a photo, when someone appreciates your work, bright & clashing colours, tea with milk & 2 sugars, peanut butter, the colour pink, sequins & glitter, retail therapy, reading in a hot bubble bath, design (graphic / interior / web), magazines photo shoots, late nights & days off, Dairy Milk just out of the fridge, facials & massages, being a girly-girl, gigs, driving with the windows down & the radio on… lotsa stuff! I got a whole lotta love to give.

    What’s your life motto?
“If you don’t document it, it never happened.” I think I was living life this way, way before I heard this, but it definitely rings true in my world. I’m constantly snapping away with my camera & documenting trips, special occasions, outfits & various events, as well as writing about them on my blog, so I never forget them. I’m sure I never will, but I love being able to look back through photo albums & reminiscing about amazing times!

What’s next in the world o’ Aimee Marie?
You never can tell! I have a lot of city breaks I want to indulge in & moving out & things to do & who knows what career I’ll be pursuing in five years time! But I do know that I love being a creative type though, so it could be photography, blogging, journalism, make-up artistry, photo-editor… who knows– watch this space! I’ll definitely always be having fun though & luxuriating in my daily dose of glittery-pink-girlyness!
