find-your-dream-jobWant to stop boring your fam, friends and colleagues with your “cracked record” moans and groans about work?
Are you stuck on the killer commute to nowheresville?
Is your self-esteem, confidence and happiness levels at an all time low?Want to do something meaningful, purposeful or just plain fun with your working life but don’t know how?

Then Find Your Dream Job is THE go-to-book.

No more crossing fingers, no more drifting, no more excuses – this book has the rocket fuel to help you soar in the form of awesome life-coach, Carole-Ann Rice, you’ll love her… She’s awesome.

Carole Ann, tell us all about your new book, Find Your Dream Job?
It’s quite an unconventional book in that it was one of my clients who came up with the idea. I was working with her as she was stuck in a career rut. I asked her what made her heart sing?  I ask a lot of clients that.

She said she loved to hear about how people found their dream job – loved their energy and found their motivation inspirational. People who love what they do beam something special. So she set out to interview people about HOW they did it and I provided the coaching notes to help the reader with each step of the way.  A publisher loved the idea and PING here we are.

carole-ann-riceAs a coach, you have people coming to you with lots of different problems, why did you decide to write a book about finding your dream job?
One in three of us is unhappy at work and it’s unbearable to think we waste a major part of our lives doing things we dislike or even hate. I was at the Vitality Show at Earls Court recently doing stress coaching and I would say 90% of people I met said the biggest source of stress in their lives was their work.  It can make you unhappy, tired, ill and even affect your relationships.  We should love what we do, why do it otherwise?  Who needs the pain?

How did you discover your own dream job/s?

I was made redundant in the last recession about 9 years ago.  I was a journalist before and though I interviewed loads of fab people I found it stressful and hard work.  I used to worry all weekend about work on Monday, that sort of thing.

I used my redundancy money to hire a coach to help me find a new path and then decided to retrain to become one!  In the past I have done voluntary counseling work but never knew I could make money from helping people change their lives. So the signs were already there for a future career I’d never dreamed of.  What I do now is a privilege and joy and I can hardly believe it’s work that I get paid for!  How cool is that?

What’s the worst job you’ve ever had?

Selling door to door on commission only  I got physically thrown out of one place! That and working as an admin clerk in a windowless room for a double glazing company in the middle of an industrial estate.  Nightmare.

What if we don’t like our job, but don’t know exactly what we want to do instead?

Deep down you do know what you want to do.  You have interests, things you are naturally good at – meeting people, organizing, being outside, connecting folk, eco stuff, nature, researching, being accurate, helping others – these are things you naturally love which could be explored and transferred into employment.  Keep researching and listening to your inner whispers.  Be curious and don’t worry if your research or courses you take don’t immediately lead somewhere.  Nothing will be lost.

You’re a life coach – my life coach-wohhoo! – how can coaching help you to find your dream job?
And what a privilege it is to have such a sass poppet princess of panache as a client too, I must say. Lucky me.

Well, when I start working with my clients I like to help them reconnect with all the things that make their heart sing,  I ask them – what really makes you happy?  What are your values?  Where would you like to see yourself fin 5 years?  Having a really wonderful goal in your life will teleport you into action too.

It helps too to build up a jigsaw image of what is is you want to do – use pictures if you fancy it to help you get an idea.  Will it be in a small or large company?  Is it local or do you want to travel?  Working in a team or on your own?  Keep asking the questions – you DO have the answers all within you.

Once we know what our dream job is – are there any specific fail-safe ingredients we need to land it?
Belief is everything.  You must believe you can find something out there you’ll love, believe you deserve to find it and that it is waiting for you.  Give all new experiences time and don’t be quick to judge or do anything hasty.  Be prepared to try on a variety of things and keep your mind open.

Finding your dream job may take time and it’s not always easy but the benefits! Imagine getting paid for doing what you love.  It’s the dream gig.
