    Answer: Nothing.

Describe Mademoiselle Style in 5 words…
You don’t mess about, do you? Straight for the trick question… at least for me.
vintage, stylish, fun and not politically correct (I know that’s cheating).

So, who is Mademoiselle Style – care to share?
My name is Laëtitia, I am 30 years old. I was born in Paris and spent my life there till I was 25 and decided to up it and move to London. I have been there since and so far the love affair is going strong. I have a daughter who is almost 2 years old and recently got engaged to her dad (who I like to call Mr Moose). That’s for the personal stuff. For the rest, I work from home on my blog and other projects (including Mademoiselle Style since recently). I suppose I am what you would call a professional blogger, even though I consider myself more like a freelance writer/journalist, as this is what I used to do.

You’re the super talent behind Sassy Minx fave Mademoiselle Robot, and now you’ve launched Mademoiselle Style – tell us all about it – what is it? why did you set it up?
You’re going to make me blush!
Mademoiselle Style is basically Mademoiselle Robot’s little sister, or its business extension, to use grown-up terms. It is a Style Consultancy service, where people can hire me to give them advice about their style, take them shopping, give them some inspiration etc.

I started it because I thought it would be interesting to take the style advice I give on Mademoiselle Robot to a more practical and personal level. I like the idea of helping people finding themselves through their clothing style. I see so many women wearing frumpylicious outfits  and think “oh lord, you don’t realize how beautiful you could be, do you?”. I think most fashion magazines send women the wrong message by constantly showing photos of celebrities, talking about trends etc, I want to help people focus on what’s important: being themselves. And to be yourself, you have to dress according to your personality, not copy Kate Moss.

We love the idea of having you as our personal stylist – I’m a curvy plus-sized girl – do you have any tips that will rock my style?

I can’t give you super precise advice just like this, as I would need to chat to you a bit more about your life, your tastes etc, and have your exact measurements, or even better, talk to you in person!

What I can tell you though is to go get a bra fitted – that’s the basic step if you wear anything above a C cup. It will basically reshape your whole figure. I tried, trust me on this one.

If you are on the hourglass side of curvy, always make sure you cinch your waist, to add more definition.

Finally, buy clothes in your size! A lot of people refuse to buy clothes if they “seem” too large a size. The result is that you will be uncomfortable in them, and get bulges coming out everywhere. I can’t stress the importance of buying clothes in the right size enough, even if it might seem like a silly advice.

What 5 tracks would be essential to a MS soundtrack to life?
    All time favourites:
    La Ritournelle – Sébastien Tellier
The Greatest Dancer – Sister Sledge
Come Softly to Me – The Fleetwoods
A Teenager in Love – Dion & the Belmonts
    Good Life – Inner City

At the moment, I am listening a lot to Lisztomania by Phoenix as well.
I am a bit bipolar when it comes to music, I either like stuff I can dance to in my pants, or really soft contemplative music.

You have effortless style and a kick-ass ‘tude – what’s your secret?!!
Aaaw. Stop it. Seriously *hides*. I don’t know about effortless! I mean most days, I find it rather easy to get dressed, but I have had crying fits in front of my wardrobe like everyone else. Especially around Fashion Week when you just know that everyone is going to look super cool and you are basically the nerdy girl. See?
My secret, I guess is to be confident is who I am & in my abilities, then it doesn’t matter what I wear, it will look good, because I feel good about myself. I just try to be positive and make the most of things in general.

    Who are your style icons?
Even though I have a “style icon” section on my blog, I don’t really have icons per se. I draw inspiration from everything everywhere, whether it is a film, a piece of furniture or an animal.
I do admire my grandmother’s style though. She used to look glamourous all the time, from morning to night, without really trying. She taught me a lot of things about beauty & style. I love old people’s attitude towards personal style.

What era would you like to go back and visit and why?
The 50’s because I am completely fascinated by fifties living. I would love to be able to jump back in time to cruise around America then. I am obsessed with mid century Americana.

What was your five must-have items?

    • Laptop
    • Phone
    • Red lipstick
    • Laura Mercier Lip Silk
    • Moleskine Diary

Tell us who inspires you/who you admire and why?
Simone de Beauvoir is a great inspiration because she lived her life exactly how she wanted at a time when women didn’t really do it.
More generally, I admire people who can create things with their hands, anything. It could be a chair, a painting, a photograph. All I can do is write, so I am envious of all those skills!

    What makes you jump-in-the-air happy?
    ANIMALS!

    What’s your life motto?
Do anything that makes you happy. Don’t compromise your dreams.

Quick fire round: What’s your favourite…

I am based in London, so if you win, you have to be able to meet me in London.

  4. Great interview! I definitely need a style booster, I find it very hard to find clothes I like that suit me at the moment, and I’m an awkward shape because of Scoliosis, which just makes it harder.

This is a fabulous competition, I’m wishing myself luck! :D

  5. As awful as it is… I lack style. I literally don’t think I have any.
April last year I weighed almost 20 stone and I had built up a fake confidence to compensate for how I felt. I made an effort and dressed up. Then between April and August I lost 5 and a half stone and although I was thrilled with my weightloss I lost my confidence. When I started uni in September I went a bit crazy and put about three stone back on. This up and down weight change has stripped all of my confidence and now I live in jogging bottoms and baggy t-shirts.

I keep waiting to lose weight before I make an effort again and I know this is stupid but I have zero money and no confidence and no idea what to wear.
I’ve even got to the point where I am scared to meet people because of what they will think and I dont know how to talk to them.

    I just want me back.

    Loves.
    Rai.
    xoxo

ps. sorry for the essay. I got a bit into that.

  7. What a sparkly gorgeous person :)
I would love a style consultation because i live up north in the middle of nowhere where there are no cool bookshops full of fashion magazines, no independent shops and very few young inspirational people so as you can guess it’s pretty tricky to find a cool style to make my own :(

  8. Hello, hello, please put me in the draw for your awesome competition. Ms Fritzy Ritz x
