Sassy Manifesto
1
April 12th, 2010Girls On Top, Inner Minx
For the first four days of this week, The Sassy Minx is going to be a little bit different. It’s unusual for us to reference all things politics as, but with election fever gripping the country amidst the upcoming General Election, it’s become very difficult to ignore the ongoing press feuds between parties and confusion about the policies they plan on implementing through the press.
Both of The Sassy Minxes have been thinking about the changes that could stem from the election, what with Lisa, having visited the House of Commons earlier this year, regarding her important work with young people, and myself losing my job in the avoidable (?) recession last year, it seems that whoever is elected into parliament needs to address that Britain needs some TLC in most areas. Except Lisa and I really don’t know who to vote for, especially as I avoid reading any sort of mainstream media literature as that seems to focus on the arguments in parliament rather than actually delivering facts of what is being done, or what will be done to help improve situations.
As positive young women, it’s difficult to find politicians to relate to, especially as there are only very few female MP’s.
We both follow Sarah Brown on Twitter, and Samantha Cameron is often documented on the pages of magazines like Grazia, due to her work with Mulberry, but this is the easy option for us, as these are the wives of politicians and don’t delve so deeply into the actual situations that are affecting our country.
I like Theresa May’s shoes, but it took the tabloid pages to tell me about them in the first place, and we both knew who Maggie Thatcher, Mo Mowlam and the suffragettes, who actually enabled us as women to vote, were. If I am honest, I know more about Michelle Obama and Carla Bruni, respective wives of the US and French presidents than I do about ANY female politician in this country, and I would like to think that I am an intelligent woman with a voice of her own.
With this in mind, we thought that it would be helpful if a female representative from each party could fill us in on what their plans are, how they will back this up, or what actions they’re taking now. Not only that, but what is suitable for our demographic as young women, some of us single career girls, some of us working mothers and wives/girlfriends, from all different walks of life. So that’s what we’ve done.
The next three days, are dedicated to a female MP representative from each of the three main political parties-Conservatives, Lib Dems and Labour. I also considered-but then reconsidered-trying to gain an interview with a female member of the BNP, as I have found out many of my peers, men and women, are going to be voting for them, which rightly/wrongly, alarms me slightly. We hope you see that we have delivered an unbiased set of interviews, and we hope that they can help you to believe that your vote and voice, does, and must, count.
We also thought that to lighten this up somewhat, we would deliver some Sassy Manifesto’s of our own. We want to know;
a;) What manifesto do you make for yourself?
b.) What would you do if you could be in charge of the country or what would you like to see? Please remember we will not publish anything that’s negative, but we’d LOVE to know what you would do, if you were in charge!
AIMEE’S MANIFESTO:
a.) To work towards maintaining a healthy body, ready for summer! So lots of good food, rest and excercise!
b.) I would like to see a minimum wage pay rise that reflects the cost of living – it is very difficult to be able to live beyond rent and utility outgoings, and life isn’t just for working! I earn above the minimum wage and I don’t ever know how I will be able to afford a house of my own, let alone a wedding or a child.LISA’S MANIFESTO
a.) To make chocolate free for women for an entire week each month – just think how many arguments would be spared, boykind, you should totally vote for this…
b.) To make sure young girls are taught about self-esteem and positive body image from age 6 and upwards – this is my big project for after the election – bring it!
c.) That everyone should be issued with a pair of pink-tinted shades – the world is a much, much better place with them on…
d.) That people HAVE to smile at each other on the tube – c’mon, lighten up commuter types!

I think its awesome you’re promoting the election because it’s going to be our generation that is effected most the any changes made and women voters and MP’s are totally sidelined and have been replaced with vapid politicians wives!
I personally like Liberal Democrat leader Nick Cleggs wife Miriam Gonzalez Durantez, who is a high powered lawyer. When asked if she would be joining her husband on the campaign trail she said – like most women she had a job and how on earth could she take 5 weeks off of work? Take that, Sam Cam (look at how virile my husband is and how adoringly I can stare at him) and Sarah Brown (if I wear Tree People then everyone will think labour is green) for being total rubbish role models because all you do is get preggers and wear M&S to show how thrifty you are rather than work hard and be the best you can be at an actual job (like Cherrie Blair did for example, overcome a difficult childhood, raise a family, be the prime ministers wife and a top barrister respected in your own right? Awesome role model? Check!)
If you’re confused about all the options go the Telegraph website and take the quiz!
Its like a Cosmo quiz but for politics! If you don’t know about the different parties policies and how they align with your own views then you can do the quiz and it will tell you the % match of your own ideas to the different political parties. It’s a start so then you can find out more about the parties/policies that seem to be closest to your own views. You can also and check out the election map which shows your area and votes per party so you can tell if your vote for Green/Lib Dem will be wasted and actually turn out to be in favour of a Conservative government.
