Flick Drummond is the Conservative parliamentary candidate for Portsmouth South.
Tell us more about yourself…….
I am 47, married with 4 children aged 17-22. I have had a varied career as an insurance broker in London, a school inspector for Ofsted, a member of the Community Health council, local chairman of the National Childbirth Trust and recently wrote the report for the social workers commission.Who/what inspired you to go into politics?
When I was looking at local schools for my children, they had 40 in reception, did not do phonics and had no after school clubs. I think the education system has improved since those days but there is still a lot to do to improve standards and establish technical schools, as not everyone is academic and can shine in other ways. What do you love most about being a woman in the world?
We are lucky that we have so many choices and can have varied careers. What is your proudest moment yet?
Having my children.
What are your five must-have, can’t live without fashion and beauty items?
E45, black trousers, contact lenses, eye liner and mascara.Who are your female icons and why?
Mothers – the hardest job in the worldWhat is your life motto?
Live life to the full
What has the Conservative party got to offer to our demographic and how are you making the moves to back this up?
We have a separate policy for women and a shadow minister for women, Theresa May MP, which shows how important they are to us.Our policy includes measures to tackle the gender pay gap, including stronger legislation to prevent employers discriminating and better careers guidance for young women.
We also want to give flexible working for all parents with children under the age of 18 and flexible parental leave so that parents can decide how to divide maternity leave between them.
Another policy is to tackle violence against women, including a greater focus on preventative work in schools, better training for police and front-line professionals and new rape crisis centres.
A Conservative government will follow a joined-up, common sense approach to women’s issues and make our society fairer for everybody, and I will be backing any policy that achieves this.
