June 1st, 2010Girls On Top, Want. Need. Must Have.
We have mentioned a few times, how refreshing it is to find a dress designer that not only has fabulous designs, but also caters for your shape in a made-to order way. I found the designer Zoe Corsellis at The Look Boutique, and I pretty much want her whole collection. So we thought we would catch up with her, and find out more…..
Tell us more about what you do?

I do the fun side to running a fashion business! Thank God I have fabulous Louise, my business partner, who does all the important stuff like marketing, pricing, negotiating, accounting etc.
I get to choose the fabrics, design the shapes, styles, make-up the samples and organise the photo-shoots.
I don’t think up designs with illustrations as a self taught designer, for me the best way to start is playing around with fabrics on the mannequins, I get inspired by the fabrics and then the shapes follow.
Who/what inspires you and why?
Absolutely anyone that can run their own business and have it succeed!
I’ve worked for many other designers who run their own label and ever since then I just know it’s something I have to do.
As far as fashion inspiration – Dior, every time, I don’t think anyone can create a collection that will ever live up to the standard of a Dior collection, in my opinion. What do you love about being a woman in the world?
It’s ok for us to use our emotions to allow us to say how we feel, to decide what to wear, where to go to socialise, etc, etc. I love getting together with my girlfriends and basically have a therapy session over a bottle of wine and dinner. I love spending hours getting ready with girlfriends making it a feature of the night. I love being able to change my hairstyle every day and wear bright clothes without being judged as a man would. I think as a women you get a lot more freedom to be yourself.
Where are your five must-go destinations for inspiration, life..?
1. New York – I feel super glamorous when I’m walking around Manhattan! I really notice how much more the women get dressed up there for all occasions at any time of the day. Love it!2. Greenwich Park – I did my first photo shoot there. I loved the idea of really dressed up girls in fabulous frocks walking their dogs through the park.
3. The Pub….
Drinking is my only vice but there’s nothing like getting seriously excited thinking up ideas for the next collection over a bottle of Vino.4. Roller Disco – I’m an eighties girl at heart. I used to go with Sunday School when I was about 9. It just wasn’t cool then skating around in brown cords and a burgundy polo neck. Now I wear cute ra ra skirts or satin jumpsuits. One day I am going to design a Roller Disco range!!
5. Wolverhampton – unfortunately for all the wrong reasons though. It’s where I’m from originally. I moved to London 10 years ago but when ever I go back to visit friends or family etc, as much as I miss them all like crazy, I can’t help but be so pleased I was able to leave when I did…..it’s not exactly the epicentre of fashion!

What has been your proudest moment so far?
Seeing my own rail in Topshop Oxford Circus full of gorgeous Corsellis dresses that were quickly being grabbed at by excited girlies! That proud feeling then turned into sheer panic 3 hours later when the rail was nearly empty and I realised we should have got a lot more stock in!
Which five tracks make your day?
1. Got to be Real, Cheryl Lynn
2. Bust your windows, glee cast – that song is just hilarious!!!
3. Break my stride, Matthew Wilder
4. Mr. Sandman, The Chordettes
5. PYT, Michael Jackson
What are your five must-have, can’t live without fashion and beauty items?1. Rimmel Sun shimmer in the medium shimmer finish, not matt – I’m very particular about this…the matt just does not rub in as well!
2. Maybelline Colossal Mascara, black.
3. Large round styling brush. I have/love really big hair!
4. Eyetuck by Skin Doctor – stupidly expensive but soooooo worth it for when I’m doing all nighters (all night work that is, not all night disco, sadly.)
5. Tan Fringed mid length flat boots from dare I say it, Primark!– they’re extremely scabby now because I’ve worn them to death and bought about 5 pairs in a row because they were so cheap but I absolutely love them and wear them all the time, they go with everything, jeans, dresses, shorts even bikinis!!!What makes you jump-in-the-air happy?
Having a gorgeous date to look forward to…I really love the whole spending time getting ready thing, the dates themselves are usually an anti-climax.
Glee (Surprise surprise, I’ve only mentioned it about 5 times so far during this interview!)
Tanqueray. I heart Gin.
The feeling when you’ve just booked a holiday.
And last of all…….Super gorgeous fabulous new shoes. What is your life Motto?.
Enjoy the Attention!
