So, I have a question…

Have you ever noticed what happens when you really, really focus on something?
Y’know, like a type of car, a person, a band?

If you’re anything like me, you’ll notice that you suddenly begin to spot that very car, person, band all the time, whether it’s on TV, in real life or on the pages of a magazine… Weird, non?
Up until her role in Sideways, Hollywood actress, Virginia Madsen, had been out of work for some time and her LA home was threatened with repossession, so she used this crazy concept called focus to create a positive change in her world…

“…I decided I would only think about cupcakes and I wrote down the word ‘cupcake.’ Lo and behold, they began to appear everywhere. I got out of a cab and there was a grand opening of a cupcake place. I turned on CNN and there was a story about how cupcakes are now all the rage. I got a present from my agent when I started this film: a basket of cupcakes.

I turned my life in a different direction and really started living with intention. Anyone can do that, and certainly some of the greatest minds in the world do it.”

Cool, right?

Y’see, when Virginia knew how to influence what showed up in her world, she began to think about all the other things she’d really rather like. It created a knock-on effect – she got into shape, took more acting lessons, called casting agents. She then received the call that led to Sideways and her Academy Award nomination.

Imagine how fab your life could be right now, if you just focused exclusively on what you wanted? Instead of worrying about all the bad stuff that makes makes you glum, just concentrate on the good stuff that you want in your life and how fabu your life would be with that stuff in it.

Personally, while I’m tempted to make like Virginia and just think cupcakes, because let’s face it, a life filled with cupcakes sounds like a whole lot of awesome, right now, my cupcake is…a passport. I love to travel, and can think of nothing more fabu than to fill this year with insane adventures, I’m thinking Italy to rock out with Piperita Patties, Paris to prettify myself with Miss Sugar Cane goodness and NYC because…oh, c’mon, as if anyone needs a reason to go to NYC?!
